OneNote: Creating and Sharing Notes

Microsoft's OneNote is a powerful collaboration tool that allows users to easily take notes and quickly share them with their colleagues. Setup is fast and easy!

  1. You can access OneNote from either the Desktop Application or via Office365. We'll do the initial setup through the Office 2016 version of OneNote.
  2. From within OneNote 2016, click File, then New.
  3. To make sure we can share this note with other people, you'll want to save this note to your WNCC OneDrive. Click the OneDrive Option with your WNCC Email address beneath it, and then select a folder within your OneDrive to the right of it. See the image below:

  4. You'll then be asked to give the note a name. Name it appropriately, as this name will what those you share the OneNote with will be looking for when opening it for the first time. Type the name into your Save box, and click Create.

  5. You will then be asked if you wish to share it with other people. To invite people now, click Invite People.
  6. You will then be given a prompt to enter the names or email addresses of those you wish to share your OneNote with. If the user is a member of WNCC, simply type their name under Share with People, and their name will appear underneath your text, like below:

  7. You can also include a personal message in the field below the names field. Once you have all the names of those you want to share your OneNote with entered into the names field, you can then click the Share button, and emails will be sent to all your recipients, with instructions on how to access the newly created OneNote.
